For Corporate Trainers ·
What you'll accomplish
After completing this guide, you'll have used ChatGPT Plus to go from a training request to a complete course storyboard, including learning objectives, module structure, assessment questions, scenario scripts, and a facilitator guide, in a fraction of the time it normally takes.
What you'll need
The most important thing you can do is give ChatGPT a clear context at the beginning of your conversation. This context carries through every follow-up response in the session.
You are helping me design a training course. Here's the context:
- My role: Corporate Trainer
- Company type: [e.g., mid-size healthcare company, large retail chain]
- Target audience: [e.g., first-line managers, new customer service reps]
- Topic: [e.g., performance feedback conversations, de-escalation skills]
- Format: [e.g., 90-minute ILT workshop, 30-minute online module]
- Learning goal: By the end, learners should be able to [MEASURABLE GOAL]
- Constraints: [e.g., "no more than 4 modules," "must include a role-play," "adult learning principles"]
Confirm you understand and are ready to help design this course.
What you should see: ChatGPT confirms it understands the context. Every subsequent prompt in this session will be answered with your specific situation in mind.
Now ask for the foundational design elements.
What you should see: 6 measurable learning objectives and a logical 4-module outline that flows from foundational knowledge to practical application.
For each module, run a focused expansion prompt.
Prompt pattern:
For Module [NUMBER] ([TITLE]), write:
1. Opening hook (1-2 sentences that engage the learner and explain why this matters)
2. Key content points (3-4 bullet points, plain language)
3. One interactive activity (describe type, instructions, timing)
4. 3 multiple choice assessment questions (with 4 answer choices each, correct answer marked)
5. Transition to Module [NEXT NUMBER]
Run this prompt for each module. The result is a complete module-by-module storyboard you can take directly into Articulate or use as a facilitator guide outline.
What you should see: A structured module blueprint for each section, with content, activities, and assessments ready to build from.
Once the course structure is set, add depth with a custom scenario.
Prompt:
Write a realistic role-play scenario for Module [NUMBER] that [DESCRIBES THE PRACTICE SITUATION]. Include: a brief character setup (name, situation, emotional state), the opening line the learner hears, 3 possible responses (one best practice, two common mistakes), and the consequence of each.
What you should see: A complete scenario with character context and decision branches, ready to use in Articulate's branching scenario feature or as a printed role-play handout.
For ILT delivery, generate your facilitator guide from the storyboard you've already built.
Prompt:
Using the course structure we've designed, write a facilitator guide for the full [DURATION] session. Format: timed segments, facilitator talking points, discussion questions, activity instructions, and debrief scripts. Include one facilitator tip per section. Assume the facilitator is experienced but unfamiliar with this specific topic.
What you should see: A complete, timed facilitator guide you can use immediately or give to a co-facilitator.
Ask ChatGPT to produce the learner-facing materials.
Prompts:
Set session context:
You're helping me design a [FORMAT] course on [TOPIC] for [AUDIENCE] at [COMPANY TYPE]. Goal: learners will be able to [OUTCOME]. Constraints: [CONSTRAINTS]. Confirm ready.
Generate full module:
For Module [N] ([TITLE]), write: opening hook, 3-4 content points, one activity with instructions, 3 multiple choice questions with answer key, and transition to next module.
Scenario builder:
Write a [TYPE] scenario for practicing [SKILL]. Character: [BRIEF SETUP]. Three responses: one best practice, two common mistakes. Consequences for each.
