What you'll accomplish
After completing this guide, you'll be able to take a compliance requirement (regulation, company policy, or legal standard) and rapidly generate the full set of content artifacts needed for a compliance course (script, scenarios, quiz questions, job aid, and email communications) in a single ChatGPT Plus session.
What you'll need
Go to chat.openai.com → New chat → click the paperclip icon (📎) to upload your file. Select your compliance document (PDF or DOCX).
If you don't have a single document, paste the key regulatory text or policy points directly into the chat window. Even a bullet-point summary works for this workflow.
What you should see: Your document filename appears as an attachment in the message. Click send with this opener:
"I've attached a compliance document. Please confirm you can read it and tell me the 5 most important things an employee must understand from this document."
This confirms the document loaded correctly and gives you a quick accuracy check.
Once you've confirmed the document loaded, set the training context:
I'm building a compliance training course based on this document. Here's my context:
- Audience: [ALL EMPLOYEES / SPECIFIC ROLE]
- Course format: [ONLINE MODULE / CLASSROOM / JOB AID ONLY]
- Course length: [15 / 30 / 45 minutes]
- Most important: employees should be able to [SPECIFIC BEHAVIOR — e.g., "recognize a HIPAA violation and report it correctly"]
- Tone needed: [Direct and clear / Warm / Regulatory/formal]
Based on this, propose a course structure (modules and key content areas).
What you should see: A proposed course structure tailored to your context, drawing from the uploaded document.
For each module, ask ChatGPT to write the narration:
Write the narration script for Module [NUMBER]: [TITLE].
- Written as a spoken voiceover (not bullet points)
- Plain language — [8th grade reading level / professional tone]
- [X] minutes of audio content (~130 words per minute)
- Include: why this matters to the employee personally, the key rules clearly explained, and one realistic example per rule
- Note any points that must use exact legal language verbatim
What you should see: A ready-to-record narration script. Run it past your compliance team before recording. AI is very good at plain language but occasionally smooths over a precision that matters legally.
Compliance courses should test application, not just recall. Ask for scenario questions:
Write 5 scenario-based compliance quiz questions for this content. Format: each question presents a realistic workplace situation and asks what the employee should do. 4 answer choices (1 correct, 3 plausible mistakes). Include an explanation for why the correct answer is right. Difficulty: application level (not just memorization).
What you should see: Five questions where the learner must apply the rule to a specific situation, not just recall the definition. These are more defensible compliance questions than simple knowledge recall.
Every compliance course should include a take-away reference card.
Create a one-page job aid (for printing or PDF) summarizing the key rules from this compliance topic. Format: short title, 5-7 rules as short memorable statements, one "Do This / Not That" example per rule, and a "What to Do If" section for the most common compliance question (e.g., "What if I'm not sure if something is a violation?"). Keep it under 400 words.
What you should see: A printable reference card that employees can keep at their desk or save as a PDF. This dramatically extends the shelf life of the training beyond course completion.
Ask ChatGPT to write your communication package at the end:
Write 3 communications for this compliance course launch:
1. Manager announcement email (what their team needs to do, why it matters, deadline)
2. Employee launch email (subject line + body with enrollment link [PLACEHOLDER], deadline, and who to contact)
3. One reminder email for 1 week before deadline (non-completers)
Tone: [PROFESSIONAL/DIRECT]. Company: [YOUR COMPANY TYPE].
What you should see: Three complete, ready-to-edit emails — your full communication plan in one output.
Narration script:
Write a [X]-minute voiceover script for [COMPLIANCE TOPIC] for [AUDIENCE]. Plain language, conversational tone. Include: why this matters personally, the key rules, one example each. Flag verbatim-required legal language.
Scenario quiz questions:
Write [N] scenario-based quiz questions testing [COMPLIANCE TOPIC]. Each: realistic workplace situation, 4 answer choices, explanation of correct answer. Application level only (no knowledge recall).
Job aid:
Create a one-page reference card for [COMPLIANCE TOPIC]: title, [N] rules as short memorable statements, "Do This / Not That" examples, "What to Do If" section. Under 400 words.
